COURSE SCHEDULE:
SESSIONS: SPaRKS2 intermediate level program for 2013 begins Wednesday, June 5, 2013 and every other Wednesday thereafter until December 4th, 2013. All sessions meet from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the University Tower Building – 2nd floor Large conference room (with the exception of four (4) sessions (please see schedule below).
SPaRKS2 GRADUATION: A graduation ceremony will be held on December 5th, 2013.
DESCRIPTION:
The SPaRKS2 is designed at the intermediate level with an emphasis on developing critical and analytical thinking when solving problems or in decision-making. SPaRKS2 intermediate level program will utilize lectures, case studies, small group discussions, and reading assignments to generate thoughtful discussion in the context of policy, regulatory and ethical issues that need to be addressed. Participants are expected to possess a solid understanding of grants administration issues and are expected to actively contribute to discussions. After successfully completing the program, participants are expected to possess a strong comprehension of grants administration issues from multiple perspectives, and be able to readily apply knowledge and skills learned in the program to their current roles.
GOALS:
To fulfill its mission and secure UCF’s position among the best in research universities, SPaRKS2 intermediate level program endeavors to:
- Develop consistent practices and a network of highly competent, well-informed research administrators to support research across disciplinary, departmental, college, and campus boundaries.
- Create and communicate best practices and procedures to ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines and reduce financial risk to the University.
- Provide increased service and research administration expertise to the research faculty.
- Reduce the administrative burden on faculty, thus allowing them more time to focus on developing proposals and seeking additional funding.
- Strengthen the research administration network by creating a forum for communication and the opportunity for team building.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
To be eligible for a SPaRKS2 Certificate of Completion, participants must:
- Attend all 14 SPaRKS2 intermediate level sessions
Only one (1) session may be missed (but must be made up prior to the next scheduled SPaRKS2 session) to maintain eligibility.
